... for some time I have been dodging the urge to watch Sherlock (the new series).
Now, I've seen it, I can't wait for Season 3 to come out and I'm turning into an obsessed Sherlock/Molly shipper. Really annoyingly distracting ...
I did found some amusing fanfic but nothing that really satisfied my need. I guess most of it was too fluffly. Some of it was right out boring.
One story I found particularly good, simply due to the dialogues between Sherlock and Molly. However, most stories suffer from a boring plot and it seems often the same ideas.
OH SPOILER ALERT!
The most common themes
Some things do work in some stories. Often enough it becomes too much and changes characters too quickly. I do not mind the Molly standing up theme at all. I just often do not like how it is handled. For example, if it is a forth and back or if it is alcohol induced. The whole heteronormative aspect is probably what I disliked most of all(awkward family visits and introductions or happiness through having ordinary boyfriend/girlfriend relations or getting even married etc.).
There are some themes that only shined through a bit that I was quite fond of.
I do like unhealthy relationships or at least some with a huge power imbalance. Let's be honest, if Sherlock were to change so much that a healthy relationship was possible - would he still be Sherlock?
Maybe it did not really help that the first scene that stuck into my mind was Sherlock playing around with a riding crop (and her being in the background). Still, I think if done right that pairing might be good for a really good BDSM fanfic.

And by good I mean consensual BDSM, not the rape-glorification crap that is 50 Shades and the rest of that domestic abuse is romantic drivel.** Not sure how something like that could start. The fact that Molly's feelings from a overblown crush began to evolve into something more mature and serious intrigued me. That she realised that her love might remain unrequited but that it would not stop her from caring or offering her help.
I can not get enough of their scenes in the last episode. Especially, when he looks up so puzzled from his analysis as she tells him that he looks sad when he thinks John can't seem him. That is such an amazing scene. The last scene when asks her for help was also great, although I think I like the first one even better. It is a hard decision. I really want to know what it is she did for him or maybe is doing for him. I do not believe in the him staying with her idea. Although I like the argument that he needs someone familiar to annoy.
Anyway, she seems to trust him and I think she would trust him enough to willingly give him even more control over her.
What I really do not want to read about is if things turn out to be about doing standard boring dating stuff. Not all women want to see crappy romances and on top of that force the guys they have sex with to watch them together. Why should Sherlock be the only one to rant at mistakes in CSI shows? Molly should know that stuff, too. Yes, that happened in more than one fanfic.
I also think it is much more satisfying to read about him respecting her professional skills and eventual lines she might draw if a relationship begins compared to him watching what he is saying around her. Or maybe I am just too fond of him saying these mean little things to her.
*I really dislike most of these couple name merges. Sherlolly really sounds silly *sighs* I kind of like Drabriel for some reason ... maybe because it is easier to but on buttons than Dracula/Gabriel. However, who am I to refuse an obviously established term
** I refuse to let vomit inducing crap like that ruin the beauty of riding crops and dom/sub relationships

The most common themes
- Molly did not only assist with the suicide but Sherlock also hides in her flat and the close proxmity leads to sexual tension
- Molly moves into Bakerstreet
(sometimes Irene Adler, too)
- Sherlock went away, returned with his reputation restored, re-acts jealous about Molly's new boyfriend and her having moved on and then of course realises he is in love with her
- Moriaty faked his death
my least favourite theme, it is just too far fetched - Moriaty is really dead but his lover (the shooter sicked on John) is out to kidnap and kill Molly to get back at Sherlock
- Molly is in
and that makes Sherlock realise how madly in love he is with her
- Bonus points for Molly dating the sniper gunning for John or some other psycho
thatt trope was getting old pretty soon - Sherlock is becoming considerably nicer to Molly
- Molly stands up to him
(or at least tries to)
- The establishment of typical heteronormative relationships, including the need to marry John off (the woman in question being very undeveloped)

There are some themes that only shined through a bit that I was quite fond of.
- Like Sherlock needing to be in control and realising that he likes to be able to control her to some degree.
- Molly accepting him as he is, even if that is not easy for her sometimes. It seems more fitting then forcing them into normative gender roles.
- Having Molly being shy but still highlighting her as an expert in her field

Admittedly I'm more of a Sherlock/John shipper but I totally enjoyed Molly's role in S2. (I kind of pair Molly off with Lestrade hehe, I just want to give him happy things and they'd both be kickass)
Um, still working on that last part I'm betaing. The last two weeks have been pretty brutal /o\

Thankfully the expectation of a third season will keep my need to write something myself in check, so I don't think getting into a new fandom will be that bad.
I heard something about xmas 2013 as the time-line for season three being aired, so I'll be patient.
I get the Sherlock/John pairing - for me their relationship is just perfect as it is now. My best friend was also like: What Molly/Sherlock? I am more into him and John. *gg*
Lestrade is way too boring for my taste but it seems him and Molly are also quite popular among ff writers. If I had to read about someone other than Sherlock being with Molly, I rather like it to be Irene. Not that I like her that much, I just find her very interesting compared to Lestrade or even John on his own.
