barbayat: (MOTU E-Hugs)
Okay, I should not read the imdb.com boards ... however, I am not sure if I sought out a regular fan board the tone would be much better.

Let me briefly summarize the situation. First episode Nick finds out he is a Grimm, he needs a while to come to terms with it. Right there and then his aunt warns him that he needs to let Juliette go. He ignores that warning.

Then Juliette gets nearly killed thanks to him being a Grimm. He does nothing. He continues to lie to her. She feels threatened by the Eisbiebers stalking Nick and watching her house. She is kidnapped - again solely because of Nick's background. He continues to lie to her, more blatantly and obvious. She declines his marriage proposal on grounds that he keeps secret from her.

Then in the last episode of Season One, he tries to tell her after she got scratched and cursed by his enemy: the hexenbiest Adalind whom Nick "killed" which he knew would still be around to do harm. He did not warn Juliette that any danger was afoot and when he finally tells her he is raving like a lunatic. It does not matter anyway - Juliette falls into a coma. End of Season.

In Season 2 we discover the whole extent of Adalind's sinister revenge unfolds very slowly before the viewer: When she is woken up by Nick's boss Renard, who is half-wesen/half-royal, and also on Adalind's hit list, she has lost all her memory of Nick. Juliette is the only one who has no clue what is going on. She feels dreadfully about not remembering Nick, especially since all her friends tell her what a lovely couple they had been. She is tormented by not being able to feel for Nick - who is now a stranger in their own home.

To make things worse, by waking her up with a kiss an obsession spell was cast on her and Renard. At first it starts with them fantasizing mildly about each other. Something that causes even more distress to Juliette: On top of feeling guilty about not remembering Nick, she is now thinking about another man.

It gets worse, while Renard understands what is going on, she is oblivious. The spell turns more and more violent. It is made clear early on that it will end with one killing the other. In an especially uncomfortable scene both try to rape each other. You can't put it any other way. They don't want to but are drawn to it by the spell.

Then the guys resolve their issues and they find an antidote and now we are faced with this long drawn out "Juliette's memories are creeping back and then piling on her all at once."

And all I read is: How much Juliette's is awful for putting Nick through all of this. That by not marrying him she is unworthy of his trust. He is keeping her safe by not telling her ..

You know what - if anyone is awful it is Nick. Yes, he is a badass grimm who kills wesen with ease: bla bla. You know what? He is an ass - a major one. The only way he could be shittier is if he was physically abusive.

Someone ought to smack this selfish asshole with a clue by four. He is not keeping her safe. He is endangering her. Multiple times he lies to her and has not even the decency to warn her that she is in danger. If he has to lie can't he at least lie to make her more prepared? Like telling her that he suspects Adalind of some shady new-age poison/drugs and that she might take revenge against him or his friends/family. Not a word. No warning at all. You know why? No, not because that would be lying as well (and according to some Juliette haters who obviously got a misogyny enema up their asses Nick does not do that ...).

He keeps her in the dark because he does not want to risk that she might decide that she does not want to risk her life by staying with him. So he can't even hint that he is involved in something dangerous at work - let alone the truth. This whole "some people freak out when they see a wesen" is just a bullshit excuse. If he really cared about her and not just about keeping her, he would tell her the truth or at least warn her. He would respect her as a person and not as some property by giving her the opportunity to decide for her self. He put her through hell and even after all this he is still treated as if he was this awesome guy.

That is the second problem. The whole sexist way in which this is written. This whole set up with the OMG she dares to cheat on me with my boss. Monroe told Renard himself how dangerous that spell was and then seeing them kiss he only went to "OMG cheating girlfriend, oho". Fuck you Monroe! Any decent person would have guesses at the very least five minutes afterwards that she is the other party of the spell. The only way he brought this up very late was as a maybe she is not responsible for her actions. Knowing that both parties under the influence are in danger. Way to make me loose respect for a second character.

Even after all this, Nick still has shown no intention of telling her the truth. The whole idea that she might regain the whole memory of what happened that night is treated as so awful. If Juliette stands up for herself as she did before she was dragged into that awful place of torment, she most likely would dumb Nick's sorry ass. I honestly want to see that. It's not that I do not like her - quite the opposite, I really liked her in the beginning with Nick and I have great respect for her in general. But these plots were awful and I would lose all respect for her if she took back Nick after all the shit he put her through. Oh yes, he drank the potion to save her. What a heroic deed. He is the reason she got cursed in the first place, this deed was neither unselfish nor special it was the very least we could expect from him.

At least now that the spell is lifted, Renard is back to being his old self: smart, cool and more bad ass than Nick could ever be.
